	automation
	any process change that results in electronic control of a repetitive action,  usually to improve accuracy, increase speed, provide greater safety or to free people for other activities
	bill validation
	a process that uses a device to visually determine if paper currency is authentic
	credit verification
	usually done while connected to a telephone line, this process determines if a credit card is valid as a purchase is being made
	custom
	any solution created that is specialized and does not involve off the shelf hardware or software
	embedded
	something contained within something else, like the embedded electronic controls within a microwave or car
	freestanding
	a device that is not (or is only occasionally) integrated with another system, but can stand on its own when necessary
	prototype
	the first working device made of a particular design
	real-time
	controls that need to make things happen at a particular time to function correctly
